Strength fatigue of stainless steel parts

There are roughly the following methods to improve production efficiency and quality, and reduce labor intensity and production costs of stainless steel parts:


1) Tool material Since the cutting force and cutting temperature are high when processing stainless steel parts, the tool material should be selected as high-strength and thermally conductive YW or YG carbide.


2) Tool geometry design Tool geometry plays an important role in cutting performance. In order to make stainless steel parts cut quickly and smoothly, carbide tools should use a larger rake angle to increase tool life.


3) When grinding the front face, the roughness value should be small. In order to avoid chip sticking, the front and rear surfaces of the tool should be carefully sharpened to ensure a small roughness value, thereby reducing the chip outflow resistance of stainless steel parts and avoiding chip sticking.


4) The tool edge should be kept sharp to reduce work hardening. The feed rate and back-cutting amount should not be too small to prevent the tool from cutting into the hardened layer of stainless steel parts and affecting the tool's life.


5) Pay attention to the grinding of the chip breaker. Since stainless steel chips are tough, the chip breaker groove on the front face of the tool should be properly sharpened to facilitate chip breaking, chip holding, and chip removal during the cutting of stainless steel parts.


6) The selection of cutting volume should be based on the characteristics of stainless steel materials. Low speed and large feed rate should be used during cutting.


7) The selection of cutting fluid should be appropriate. Since stainless steel is prone to adhesion and poor heat dissipation, it is very important to select cutting fluid with good anti-adhesion and heat dissipation during boring. 


For example, use cutting fluid with a high chlorine content. And a mineral oil-free, nitrate-free aqueous solution with good cooling, cleaning, rust prevention and lubrication effects,

The above process method can overcome the difficulties in stainless steel processing, greatly improve the tool life during stainless steel machining, and reduce the number of tool grinding and tool changes during operation.
